An American investment bank chooses the main floor of an early 1900s’ building in the centre of Milan for its new offices. A coffered ceiling, a chiselled stone fireplace, inlaid wooden floors are the existing elements that the project interacts with. A white monolith as reception desk, a grey wall with logo behind that, a vast white coffered ceiling cut by a long metal sheet that is backlit to serve as reception lamp, floors of long grey-glazed oak planks for the common areas in contrast with the ancient parquet of the offices. The result is a pure space defined by simple lines that highlight and value the historic traces in the rooms while refurbishing them with a modern character.
